Bombella Bass was created in 2008 by Sergio Bombella, a professional pianist and technician, and Guillermo Bombella, a professional bass player and luthier.

As a bass player, Guillermo was having a tough time trying to get the feel and sound that he wanted out of a mass production bass.  He would spend hours trying to replicate the techniques and sound that were emerging on the music scene at the time.

My father always said, “To do something well, you need to have the right tools!  When the right tools are in front of you, you will accomplish your goals more efficiently and take your creativity to new heights.”

In 2002, we sat at his piano and he asked, “why don't you think about building a bass using the same physical properties of a piano?”  He explained the most important aspects behind an exceptional quality piano were touch-sensitive control with an ability to deliver a complete / dynamic range and contrasting expression, articulation and inflection with every note.  Put simply, the true essence of the instrument comes from effortless playability and results in pure sound coming alive.

In 2003, Guillermo and his father set out on the journey to create a bass guitar guided by these principles.  The first Bombella Bass (Model BB4) was sold in 2008 and has since continued to evolve.  Whether you want a custom designed instrument or you fall in love with one of our four standard models, every instrument is built under the same fundamentals: high quality woods, low action, crystal-clear deep tones and the versatility to play any musical style you require.
